A recent poll conducted by NuggMD.com, the largest telehealth platform for cannabis, reveals that 59% of cannabis consumers would be more likely to vote for a presidential candidate who supports pro-cannabis policies, irrespective of the candidate's political party. This finding underscores the potential impact of cannabis policy on the upcoming presidential election, with President Biden leading Donald Trump 43% to 36% among regular cannabis users.
The poll, which surveyed 755 individuals from NuggMD's first-party data, also found that the Democratic Party is viewed more favorably than the GOP regarding cannabis policy, with 56% of respondents believing Democrats have better ideas for cannabis legislation. However, skepticism remains, as nearly 40% of respondents think Democrats aim to suppress legal cannabis use, compared to 68% who believe the same of Republicans.
Deb Tharp, head of legal and policy research at NuggMD, commented on the findings, stating, "This poll shows that adopting pro-cannabis policies can move more constituents into either party’s camp." Tharp emphasized the importance of policy commitments over partisan politics in attracting this emerging voter bloc.
The methodology of the poll involved a digital survey conducted from March 25 to April 3, with a margin of error of 3.89% at a 95% confidence level. The results suggest that cannabis policy could play a significant role in shaping voter behavior in the upcoming election, with implications for both political parties as they seek to appeal to this growing demographic.
